Hazardous Waste Collection

The County holds a household hazardous waste collection once a year at the Rockbridge County Landfill.  The local newspaper, radio station, Rockbridge County Landfill and Collection Centers will advertise the date and info for the collections.

MATERIALS ACCEPTED:
Pesticides
Antifreeze
Mercury
Herbicides
Fuels
Solvents
Used Oil
Oil Based Paint ONLY
Light Truck/Car Tires - NO RIMS (Up to 30 Tires Per Household)
   *** No Tractor Tires or Heavy Truck Tires
Batteries (In Separate Bags or Each End Taped Off)
Compact Florescent and Florescent Bulbs

*Liquids Containers: triple flush containers and refer to state guidelines for disposal.

When arriving at the collection site, please remain in your vehicle, stop at the gate entrance to the Landfill, and follow the attendants’ instructions.

DIRECTIONS TO THE ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY LANDFILL:

If you are coming from Lexington, turn at the East Lexington Bridge on Old Buena Vista Road. When you get to the end of the road at Neriah Baptist Church, take a right. You will pass South River Market (left) and Mountain View Elementary (right).  Cross the railroad tracks and take the first public road on the right – Middle Road. Turn right onto Landfill Road. The landfill is located at the end of the road.

If you are coming from Buena Vista, turn left from Catalpa Street onto Middle Road (past Golden Living Center). Travel about two miles and turn left onto Landfill Road. The landfill is located at the end of the road.

There will be a landfill employee at the gate entrance to take your hazardous waste information and direct you where you need to go.
