Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T)
The Sheriff's Office, along with the Lexington City Police, provide a part-time tactical team. Having a properly trained and equipped tactical team reduces the time it takes to respond to a situation and allows for officers on the roads with higher skill sets. The team trains monthly on different scenarios that may arise ensuring properly trained personnel are ready to respond to an emergency at a moment's notice.
The Sheriff's Office also has a five person dive team that concentrates on underwater recovery.
The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office Court Services Division consists of five full-time bailiff's and two part-time bailiffs. The division provides court security in three county courts and is responsible for transporting prisoners to and from the court complex. The bailiffs are also responsible for the transportation of the mentally ill (TDOs), out of state extraditions, assistance with civil process, as well as juvenile transports to facilities outside Rockbridge County.
