The Rockbridge area is strategically positioned midway along the eastern seaboard at the intersection of Interstate 81 and 64.  This location provides excellent linkages to major U.S. markets.  Over 40% of the US population and in excess of 200,000 manufacturers are located within a 500 mile radius. View the Rockbridge County Vicinity map and the 500 Mile Range map of the area.

With its proximity to several ports and airports in Virginia, Rockbridge County is an ideal location for international businesses to develop their presence in the United States.

Rockbridge County has a diversified economy with strong manufacturing, trade, services and agricultural sectors. Manufacturing activity centers around natural resources, textiles, and a variety of industrial, commercial and residential goods. 

With four higher education institutes in the area; Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Virginia Military Institute, Southern Virginia University and Washington and Lee University. Rockbridge County offers a diverse and skilled labor force. Dabney S. Lancaster Community College will even tailor educational courses based on skill demand. Areas of study at all four institutes includes: business, science, computer science, economics, engineering, education, communications, information systems, management and nursing. 

In addition to working with local universities, the County works closely with the Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Center (SV SBDC) established by James Madison University. SV SBDC is available to assist potential business owners and current business owners with starting a businesses, business expansions and business growth. The County has a rich history and numerous tourist attractions, most notably the namesake-Natural Bridge. The surrounding area has an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities including rivers and hiking/biking trails, three Universities, one community college and plenty of family friendly activities.
